While being a morning person seems to be second nature to some people, some of us need a little more help. Sometimes just making a few adjustments to your AM routine can make a huge difference. Scroll on for some tips and tricks to help you rise *and* shine in the morning.
1. Stick to a schedule
Not getting enough sleep can make anyone a zombie in the AM. Set your alarm for the same time during your workweek, not based on whether or not you need to take a shower or make an additional stop before work. Sticking to something concrete will help your internal clock, so you’ll be more rested and alert.
2. Get up and move
Getting a little exercise in the AM will wake you up and get those endorphins running for the day. We’re not saying you have to enroll in a 6 AM bootcamp class (but you totally should if that’s your thing!), but even a short full-body stretch will wake you up and put you in a positive, let’s-do-this mindset.
3. Minimize your morning tasks
If your morning routine includes scratching your head for 20 minutes in front of your closet or rushing around looking for your keys, it’s time to move those tasks to the night before. Press and lay out your outfit, prepare your bag, meal prep… anything you can do the night before for a smooth morning will save you plenty of time and mental energy.
4. Don’t hit snooze
We know, we know—scoring an extra 15 minutes of sleep may sound glorious, but you’re actually doing more harm than good. Once your alarm goes off, be sure to rise and shine ASAP. Don’t reach for your phone and retreat back to your blankets to check your notifications—it’ll only make you want to stay under your blankets.
5. Give yourself an AM treat
Find little ways to show yourself some love and you’ll want to get up and moving. Whether it’s prepping some overnight oats, sprinkling some cinnamon in your morning coffee or just leaving yourself a sticky note full of affirmations on your bathroom mirror, giving yourself something nice in the morning will kickstart your positive attitude to carry you through your day. Oh, and an upbeat wake-up playlist can work wonders.
